This flat plan I have created is a typical plan of a contents page for a Hip Hop magazine. The page is divided into two where the main image is on the left and the page numbers and writing is on the right. I have considered the use of rule of thirds by placing the dominant image to be on the left side so the reader will automatically look from left to right. Also, I have selected this layout purposely to gain more awareness onto the image which would attract the targeted audience. The smaller sized insert images is placed under the text as it will show the reader a sneak preview of what will be expected in some of the important pages. Each page number will be with a heading and a little feature with it. By keeping it simple and creative will appeal more to my target audience as I have found that out from my audience research.
My next flat plan is designed to be most suitable for my target audience that were interested in more text with the images. By having a major balance will range the target audience but however could be designed to be dull and boring. This flat plan is laid out especially to make more text stand out and be in more brief general detail of what to expect inside the magazine. Some of the conventions here are used in the first flat plan of my choice. However, one difference is made with a letter from the editor/freebie/advertisement will be there to add additional information to the front cover which could make it more of a professional image.

Front Cover Flat Plans
This flat plan has a very simplistic, original layout which is commonly used on Hip Hop magazines. This specific layout is unique in its own way as it mostly used to differ from other layouts. The layout of it is position is in a basic format to allow the masthead and main image to stand out visibly more than any other writing on the cover. This is an advantage to my target audience as most of my results showed that images were their preference which will meet my audience’s needs.
This flat plan is presented in an exclusive way as it has been laid out with the masthead being dominant as it has been placed over the main image. By having the masthead looking powerful shows that the name has an influential image to the target audience.
This particular flat plan has more of the balance with the images and text being dominant equally. By doing this can engage both sides of the target audience expecting both that like the look of more images or text. This is a clever way to attract more attention from my young target audience.
Masthead Research
I have recently been struggling to find the perfect masthead for my Hip Hop magazine. As I have had my own few ideas on names, I also thought it would be a very enthusiastic idea to ask my target audience. From my knowledge, Mark Zuckerburg has taken over millions of lives by producing a social networking webpage for people all over the world called Facebook. I’m a user on this and have many friends from different cultures who are mostly at the same young age as me which relates back to my target audience. By sharing names on Facebook allows a range of answers and for people to ‘like’ the name they think is suitable for my Hip Hop magazine. This will ensure me to a range of ideas and for me to take into consideration for me to produce the best ideal outcome.
I have many names that I have thought of and have been given from my target audience, they are:
- Weezy
- Wavey
- Bounce
- Beats
- The Lick
- Rythem
- Hippidy-Hop
All the catchy names above have increasingly attracted my target audience and I have been taken it into consideration on which one would fit into my magazine perfectly well. I have considered the ones in Red are the possible mastheads to feature on my magazine. The reason why is because in my opinion it is more catchy and unique than the others there. The masthead I have finally chosen will be ‘The Lick’ as it’s a catchy pun which sounds more unique and different to represent a Hip Hop magazine.
